Multilingual reading aloud by the teacher in school and foreign language at secondary level I (MeVoL)

Multilingual reading aloud by the teacher (MeVoL) is an innovative teaching concept for multilingual reading promotion in which the teacher reads a story aloud over several weeks – alternating between German and a foreign language.

The foreign language is thus experienced in a lively and positively charged context of use, while the language of schooling German forms a mental bridge for understanding the foreign language. The multilingual reading aloud is complemented by scaffolding measures, follow-up communication tasks and training in cross-language text reception strategies. MeVoL was developed with teachers and school classes based on the design-based research (DBR) approach.
