The Centre of Democracy Education and Human Rights examines political questions from historical perspectives and looks at topics from both a didactic and a scientific standpoint. It evaluates its findings within the context of teacher training, tailoring them for use at the different levels of study and in the public sphere and encouraging scientific debate.

Founded in 2015, the Centre of Democracy Education and Human Rights combines historical study with scientific and didactic perspectives. It dedicates itself to promoting scientific exchange, advancing teacher training and adapting the findings of its work for use at the different levels of study. It is also tasked with public relations work in the form of exhibitions, presentations and the like.

The Centre of Democracy Education and Human Rights bases its work on a broad understanding of what political education is. In its projects, it studies questions relating to such things as social pluralism, the workings of political systems and the history of human rights, examining them from historical perspectives. One of the topics it regularly focuses on is holocaust education. The specialist unit also focuses on promoting specific didactic approaches within history teaching.
